ACCREDITATION TEAM COMMENDS BSUTH FOR STANDARD FACILITIES
An Accreditation team from the Faculty of Psychiatry, National Postgraduate Medical College of Nigeria has expressed satisfaction with the quality of personnel and equipment at the Department of Psychiatry, Benue State University Teaching Hospital, Makurdi.
The Team made its feelings known while debriefing the management of the hospital after inspection of facilities of the department and other key areas of the hospital.
Leader of the team, Prof Golden Goar from the Jos University Teaching Hospital applauded the Chief Medical Director Dr. Stephen Hwande for rehabilitation and upgrading of the structures and facilities at the department, which he described as world class and good enough for the advancement of mental health, not only in Benue State but in the entire North Central region.
He however recommended for employment of more personal, especially consultants, senior and junior registrars to cater for the sub specialties, as well as provision of Electro-encephalogram machine and upgrade of the seminar room of the department.
Also speaking, Dr. Ishaq Audu from Amadu Bello University Teaching Hospital Zaria, noted that BSUTH is the only hospital with a Metabolic clinic in the whole country and adviced for its improvement, adding that the E-library of the hospital as well as recreational facilities provided for the patients were up to international standards.
Responding, the CMD Dr. Stephen Hwande appreciated the team for the thorough inspection of the hospital’s facilities and assured that management would improve on all the areas pointed out.
Dr. Hwande stated that the Benue State government under the leadership of Governor Hyacinth Alia has entered into partnership with international organizations to fully equip the hospital.
